OUR STORY
Behind the Scenes
By the Sea Sanctuary believes all life is valuable, and all life deserves kindness. Since 2020, they have been dedicated to the rescuing and rehabilitation of farm animals of all types, and from all walks of life.
Along with the many animals, By the Sea Sanctuary shares its space with four human friends. Samantha is the founder of the sanctuary, and is assisted by her husband Derek, and two sons. The family has lived in Seaside since 2019, and grew up in central Oregon. Previously they called Las Vegas home for 10 years. When the opportunity arose to own their favorite iconic bar on the coast, they quickly began searching for the perfect property to raise their kids, and open a farm sanctuary.
Samantha, a long time vegan, had always dreamed of running a sanctuary. What began as a dream that seemed far in the distance became a quick reality when the Oregon fires began in the summer of 2020.
Initially they took in a few foster goats, and then some permanent ones. Next came the pigs, and more pigs. Then a cow, and more goats. Eventually the sanctuary was a time rescue operation.
The current and future goal is to provide a safe haven for these residents for life, and continue efforts to save as many as possible.
